November is Adoption Awareness Month. In honor of this special month we thought it fitting to update you on our adoption journey.
We still find ourselves waiting for our daughter. Dreaming of the day that she will come and complete our family. Dreaming of what she will be like and what she will look like. Already missing her and the days we’ve lost yet not even knowing who she is yet or if she is even born.
It truly is amazing that so many emotions can spring forth from a child who we have yet to meet.
This month marks one year of waiting and the realization that we could wait another year or two or three is hard. Guys, waiting is hard. I would be lying if I said otherwise.
My heart jumps a little every time the phone rings, hoping and praying it’s an unknown number with a social worker on the other side. Every time it’s not, that joy and anticipation is squashed. Every day, week, month, year that passes by without our daughter in our home is devastating, yet God.
Yet God is working in us and in her. He is making us more like Him with every passing day as we learn to rely on Him and seek Him. In Him we have our hope.
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
Galatians 4:4,5
This scripture is encouraging during this season of waiting. God’s timing is not always our own but His timing is always right. Once the “fullness of time had come,” Jesus was sent to earth and God’s promises to us were fulfilled, in His timing, not our own.
While we wait for His timing we are being renewed day by day, brought closer to Him and reminded of our need for Him. This waiting period has brought us to our knees and taught us to trust Him more and more each day. We have learned things that we otherwise wouldn’t have and all glory goes to Him.
So, In Him we hope. Hope that one day soon that phone will ring and have news of our waiting daughter. Hope that “when the fullness of time has come,” He will send her.
We wait for that fullness of time when we can welcome baby girl into our home because we already know she is in our hearts.
“But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the Lord…” Micah 7:7
